Chickpeas with spinach. It is a hot dish that usually goes well for the cold days of autumn and winter. It combines the proteins of the chickpeas with the calcium of the spinach, so it is very healthy. And with other vegetables that we are going to add to it, there will be even more nutrients to complete it. Without further delay, lets see how to make theese chickpeas with spinach.

INGREDIENTS for 4 people

  • 14 oz of chickpeas
  • 11 oz of spinach
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp of sweet paprika
  • 1 tbsp of fried tomato
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Oil


Time needed: 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Follow the steps below to elaborate these delicious chickpeas and spinach:

  1. First, prepare the chickpeas.

    In a casserole put the chickpeas and make sure you cover them well with plenty of water. Add a handful of salt and let repose them all night. You can add a tbsp of baking soda if you want to improve your digestion.

  2. Add the paprika, the carrots and the garlic.

    The next day, drain the water from the chickpeas. Then, add again cold a little of water to the chickpeas and drain it immediately . Afterwards, in a pot place the legume and aggregate the paprika, the carrots previously cut in slices and the well-chopped garlic. You can add the whole garlic if you prefer. Finally, put a little oil jet. Cover all with plenty of water and season.

  3. Cook the chickpeas.

    Cook the chickpeas over medium heat. If you use a pressure cooker, let to cook them for a half an hour. But if you have a conventional one, then let the chickpeas cook for about 1 and a half hour or 2 hours, until they get tender.

  4. Finally, aggregate the spinach and finish cooking.

    Once they are cooked, you can add more water if you see it is evaporated. Aggregate a tbsp of fried tomato to give more colour and flavour to the sauce. Add also the spinach. Mix all well and let them cook for about 3 minutes, until the spinach are reduced and integrated with rest of ingredients.

It takes some time to make these chickpeas with spinach. But they are very easy to prepare. You can be at other things while they are cooking. On the other hand, you can elaborate them with a several days before. In the fridge, they can last for about five days. And they will be more tasty. Try them!
